ABOUT ANDIMATION

VISION

LOCAL ANIMATION TALENT, GLOBAL RESONANCE

ANDIMATION is developed by The Animation Workshop – VIA University College and supported among others by the UNESCO – International Fund for the Promotion of Culture.

The program is centered on cross territorial, artistic collaboration between animation professionals from the countries of the Andean Region – Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela – and Denmark.

Using combined strengths to create story universes for animated TV series that can resonate across the territories, participants – concept developers, animation artists and producers – communicate about common references and create new ones together.

In doing so, ANDIMATION encourages cooperation, co-production, and the pursuit of ambitious international projects by local creative voices. This process reveals local identities and values, and facilitate knowledge sharing.

ANDIMATION can be the beginning of a broad movement for the animation sector in the Andean Region.

Concept Incubator

October – December 2016 / The Animation Workshop – Viborg, Denmark

Phase 1: DISORIENTATION (2 weeks)

This phase was dedicated to introducing the program, its objectives and building the 5 teams. Through brainstorming sessions, physical activities and creative exercises the participants were welcomed into their new environment and got to know each other and the project team. This was all done in the spirit of forming the best possible combinations of artist/writer/producer of different nationalities.

Phase 2: CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT & PRODUCTION TRAINING  (4 weeks)

The 5 project groups were formed and began working on their animated TV series concepts. To that effect each group had a dedicated work space, along with all the equipment and materials necessary to the development of their pitch kits and a common brainstorming room.

The 5 teams developed their concepts into state of the art ready-for-market pitch kits. The projects were developed through hands-on processes, in the very supportive environment and the solid structure of The Animation Workshop – VIA University College‘s facilities in Viborg.

The teams were encouraged and inspired during conferences and individual consulting sessions by international experts from the media and animation community and day to day management was taken care of by Animation Director, Denis Chapon and Producer Margaux Gillet

Phase 3: PREPARE TO PITCH (2 weeks)

The teams prepared and practiced their pitching “mojo” with the advice of friendly and seasoned international experts.

International Pitching Session

December 2016 / Viborg  – Denmark

Our teams took their pitch kit for a presentation in front of an international jury of acknowledged professionals. One of the 5 animated TV series concepts was selected to go for production in 2017. The jury was composed of regional and international experts.

Originally planned to take place during TIFA Andina 2016 – The Andean Region first workshop and network for animation professionals – the pitching session has been moved to Denmark, due to the challenging situation in Venezuela. TIFA  Andina remains a key partner in ANDIMATION and was present at the pitch.

Access to Market

When the pilot is ready in May 2017, The Andimation Team will have made contacts with local and international TV networks to insure the pilot gets the best chance to be produced into a series and reaches a community of fans.

ANDIMATION will be showcased at Annecy 2017  – An uncanny opportunity for networking and financing for any animation professional.

In 2015, Annecy has introduced a new pitching category called “Animation du Monde” which promotes projects coming out of countries with limited production capacities. This program changes territorial focus each year, hopefully in the coming years, at least one of the Andean countries will be on Annecy’s list.
